WHALE FALL

By Prema Arasu

a loss

for the migrating pod

is a revel for worms

far below

in sunless seas

where the song fades

sleeper-sharks

rend the flesh

from fragile arches

of this costal cathedral

until the osedax

bore into marrow

laying bare her

sublime

geometry

the architect is long dead,

her signature

marked in the vestiges

of lungs

and

milk
