WE’LL RETURN TO SAND

By J.D. Scève

Our love broke and scattered on the shoreline,

The gulls peck and consume the remnants,

How much longer till we cleave the silence-

Puncturing the void of hapless murmurs?

If only the waves drowned us the first time.

Should we be stranded in turbulent waters again,

Then I will sail onwards against your currents,

This will be our final sunset together as one,

The skies shall softly burn till the dark takes hold,

We will seek different lighthouses in other hearts.
