THESE THOUGHTS IN WHICH I HIDE

By Natalie Horrocks

My heart if I could live without it.

I would bury my hands into my chest and with all my strength,

I would prize it beating still, with the last of my energy

I would give it to you.

But without my heart rests a hollow gaping hole in my chest

I cannot feel.

Blood pouring down my hands.

I panic as I stand before you, my love, I feel nothing.

I watch as you sew my heart onto your arm.

My love how it beats for you.

I drop to my knees as I fight for my last breath.

You plunge your hands into your chest.

My slowly closing eyes, witnessing you pull your heart, from within your ribcage.

With your fumbling fingers caressed with blood.

You stitch it to my arm.

We lie in one another's arms, as we wear our love upon our sleeves.

Sharing one last breath, our love shall never die.
