THERE'S A STORM BREWING

If I cast a spell and made it rain,
Even if it hadn’t rained for days,
Even if it helped the flowers grow,
And all the seeds we’d sown
Sprout and bear us fruit;
Even if it gave the trees a drink
And painted all their leaves a few shades greener,
Jollied little ducks and kids in welly boots,
Thrilled with puddles,
In splattered waterproofs
Which no amount of washing would get cleaner;
Even if it kept us close together,
Allowed us time to think,
To sit and read and talk and mumble,
Plan holidays, eat homemade crumble -
If I magicked up the weather,
Conjured water from the sky,
Would you hate that I could do it
And leave me out to dry?
