GIVING UP

giving up feels really good
if you haven't then you should
all that pointless longing gone
leaving room for heedless fun
good or bad kind, come what may
you won't live forever anyway
what's important is today
throw off obligations, cares
do what once you wouldn't have dared
now that you're no longer scared
if it kills you that's ok
death will get us all one way
or another, that's a fact
bungee jump while smoking crack
rockclimb with no safety gear
guzzle absinthe for a year
do 120 past a school
highdive into shallow pools
skydive with an iffy chute
swim with sharks, don't give a hoot
if they tear you all to shreds
or go out in a hail of lead
holding up a bank, let's say
what's it matter anyway
nothing to look forward to
save for being further screwed
