DAY AFTER DAY

By Matthew Kaleb McLaren

ree

Day after day, I lie alone in my room,

Day after day, my mind is my tomb,

Day after day, I lie alone in my bed,

Day after day, I lie alone in my head,

Day after day, there’s questions, more questions,

Day after day my mind makes anxious suggestions,

Day after day imaginary problems that still need solutions,

Day after day my brain spins in ever faster revolutions,

Day after day nothing but thinking is so mentally draining,

Day after day I feel my energy waning,

Day after day the earth still rotates, though not as fast as my mind,

Day after day my thoughts make me hate me, why can’t I be kind,

Day after day I feel like I’m drowning,

Day after day anxiety increases, it’s constantly mounting,

Day after day overthinking the future, the present, but mainly the past,

Day after day, never ending, relentless, how long will this last,

Day after day I’m exhausted, ‘cause if I’m sleeping I’m dreaming,

Day after day I’m exhausted, ‘cause anxiety nightmares wake me up screaming,

Day after day I’m exhausted ‘cause my thoughts leave me reeling,

Day after day I’m exhausted, fighting demons that control all my feelings,

Day after day I start my recovery,

Day after day the black fog that surrounded, no longer smothers me,

Day after day I’m feeling higher and higher,

Day after day my mind tells my mind anxiety is a liar,

Day after day I lie alone in my bed,

Day after day I lie alone in my head.
