CHASE

By Isabel Szurlej

ree

Thick necklace of stars light-years wide

Wrapped around the neck of the Goddess.

Beautiful stellar disk with its brightest

Diamond Betelgeuse, pulsating red

Butterfly in gaseous coat.

Goddess heading towards infinity,

So young,

Less than thirty thousand ages old.

Her body shines turquoise in milky band

Of light watched by roaming atoms.

She travels the galaxy with a modular robot.

It’s mechanical servant built by Hephaestus.

God gave him four arms, with flexible actuators

And intelligence.

Their trajectory has the shape of a hyperbola

Surrounded by a circumstellar envelope.

Computer dogs chase them, approaching the Sun.

Astral wind creates bow shock and heats matter.

Canines move against classical mechanics

To come closer.

Robot’s charge pump generates high voltage

Which erases dogs’ memory. Canine spaceship

Sheds its outer layers and dissipates.

Sky Gods speak about the eccentric

Anomaly of the Solar System.
