Once upon a time, the devil applied silver to glass
Creating a surface upon which to see yourselves
Providing a means to monitor your appearance
He laughed at his clever invention,
Then he gifted it to the world
And he sat back and watched you use it
You are delighted with how you look
Different hairstyles and makeup
Fashion and baubles to decorate yourself
The world became a prettier place to live in
What a wonderful present you would think
But remember, the devil is evil, even more than I
Do you fancy his gift a blessing?
Why does the devil laugh as you use his mirror?
Because that surface reflects only lies
Incentivizing you to be slaves of vanity
Another means of corrupting your morality
The image it reflects is not what I want to see
No illusion I project is held within the glass
The creature that returns my gaze cannot be me
No matter where I go, it follows me relentlessly
I reject the fiend it says I am
Enraged, I smash the mirror into so many shards
Only now, a thousand blood-sucking grotesqueries are cast back at me
