DARKNESS IN THE LIGHT

By Paul Sugar

The darkness creeps below the surface,

Like a shark circling it’s prey,

The bite purposeful and lethal,

The light slowly fades away

The deepest parts of the ocean,

Hide many a surprise,

The secrets locked far below,

To the top they try to rise

The darkness trying to consume me,

Pulling me deep into the night,

Thoughts stalking like vultures,

My mind always in a fight

The strength I find within,

Keeping me afloat,

My hands struggling to grip,

As I cling on to the boat

As the dark thoughts reappear,

I’ll fight with all my might,

Forever trying to contain,

The darkness in the light
