By Maddie
There is this
electricity in my
bloodstream
that bars my veins
to freeze.
Keeps me awake
on nights I fancy
eternal slumber.
There is this
molten fire
at my heart’s core
that ebbs and flows.
Keeps me warm
as I turn blue
and shiver in the snow.
There is this
voice that rumbles
in my gut,
gives me strength
to speak up,
when silence cozies
around me.
This tug of war
never ends.
But of late,
as Darkness pulls me,
Light and only Light-
is all I choose to see.
