HEY LITTLE ONE

Hey Little One...

If you ever read my words,

I’ve got something to tell you.

You’ve still got so much to learn

About life and the world.

But please listen.

I know that you felt so lonely

At 7 years old in that new school.

You struggled to make new friends,

You were mostly alone in the end.

I know you hated secondary school.

These other kids could be so cruel

To you and you were too shy

To answer back and fight.

And for that I’m sorry.

I’m sorry you had nobody

To turn to

When your cousin abused you.

I’m sorry that he made you do

Things that were so confusing

For such a young mind

Although it crossed your mind.

But back then you didn’t know

How to say “no”

I know he was nice to you.

He took advantage of you.

Please little one, hear me out.

This wasn’t your fault.

You’ve got nothing to be ashamed about.

This wasn’t your fault.

I know you put a brave face on

To grow up and carry on.

You didn’t want to bother,

But little one, you do matter…
